The Carolina Theatre first opened its doors to theater patrons in 1926, featuring performances from such talents as Will Rogers, Katherine Hepburn and Lillian Gish. Today this carefully restored, Beaux-arts venue serves Durham as a performing arts center and cinema offering screenings of art house and foreign films intermixed with an occasional studio feature. The center also hosts a variety of musical acts, symphony concerts, plays, musicals and film festivals. It is located downtown, adjacent to the Durham Civic Center.
